National Education Nature Park Grant

We are fortunate to have been chosen as one of the schools eligible to apply for a Grant of up to £5000 to increase the biodiversity of the school environment.

Step one of the process was to mark the boundaries of the school grounds and then map the habitats. We were really pleased to have Louis from RHS come along to support the children as they researched the area, using flow charts to identify and label different habitats.

We hope to improve the school environment by adding some wildflower areas,  hedging at the front of the school, a woodland habitat area and to have space to grow our own vegetables!

This is something that will take time - but we will keep this page updated with any news!

MAPPING THE SCHOOL HABITATS

10 children were supported by Louis from RHS to map the various habitats on the school grounds. They used resources including flow charts to identify and name the different habitats. Once this was completed, a digital copy was created and shared on the Education Nature Park website. This is the first step in our journey to improving the biodiversity of our school grounds.

OUR SCHOOL GROUNDS BEFORE THE CHANGES

We took some photos of the various areas around the school that we would like to use the money from the grant to improve. The children have suggested a wild flower meadow, bug hotels, somewhere to plant fruit and vegetables and would love the chance to grow things from seeds! Watch this space!
